Host System: IBM AS/400
Host Application: BPCS
Data Capture Hardware: Symbol PDT6840
Symbol PDT6840 (Radio Frequency) barcode scanners
System Location: Raw Material Stores
System Summary: A Goods Receipt function, developed on the AS/400, provides simple data entry for the user. The data is passed to both a print routine and to DCCONNECT.
The print routine produces bar coded labels, each with a unique serial number that are attached to the Raw Materials before being placed in the stores. The label information is automatically downloaded to a Server PC that is used for validation by the RF scanners.
DCCONNECT provides the interface with the BPCS system and uses the published data entry routines found within BPCS.
Programs, developed in C and running on each scanner, provide data entry capabilities through scanning or keyboard for Raw Material Issues, Returns and Cycle Counting.
All validation is performed via the RF network against the Server PC before the transactions are automatically transferred to the AS/400 via DcFlex for posting into BPCS using DCCONNECT and the published BPCS data entry routines.
Transaction buffering within DcFlex enables the Data Collection function to continue even when the AS/400 is not available.
Once the transaction is collected on the scanner all processes that are used to post the transaction in to BPCS are automatic and require no user intervention.
